Clarksville Roller Derby held their first annual Springtime Carnival and Skate-a-Thon on Saturday, April 25th, delighting fun-loving locals and vendors from across the area.
Geared toward young families, the event offered mini carnival games 🎯, balloons 🎈, face art 🎨, a bounce house 🏰, and a host of local vendors featuring one-of-a-kind creations and tasty treats for all ages.
As attendees browsed everything the vendors had to offer, they watched as Clarksville Roller Derby skaters took to the track and delighted crowds in silly and sometimes crazy costumes. Each skater had a number of laps to complete based on the donations they received for the event. A pink axolotl, a 6-ft unicorn 🦄, a sequined harlequin, and a raccoon in an actual trashcan were just some of the outfits worn by skaters as they rolled around.
Between sets of laps, the floor was cleared to make way for a live fire-spinning show 🔥, capturing the attention of every casual passer-by. If the colors, crowds, and the magician in a cape directing traffic brought you in, you stayed to enjoy a menagerie of sights and sounds while browsing handcrafted items and local talent.
The event was free to attend, with tickets to play mini games or receive face art set at just $1 each. All proceeds from ticket sales went directly to Clarksville Roller Derby to help them continue offering community events and actual sports events, called “bouts”, in the area.
